「史卡博羅市集」(Scarborough Fair)與「綠袖子」(Green Sleeves)並列英格蘭最有名的民謠，這是一首古老的「謎歌」(riddle song)──用一些很難達到的要求，來考驗對方對自己的感情。這其實是一種含蓄的愛的表現。
 
「Scarborough Fair」的歌詞曲調約略追溯到十三世紀的英格蘭。Scarborough Fair是中世紀的一個定期市集(現今英國有個小鎮正叫做Scarborough)，一直到1788年停止之前，傳統上於8月15日開始，持續45天。
 
歌詞第二句唱到了四種香藥草：香芹/荷蘭芹/巴西利(parsley)、鼠尾草(sage)、迷迭香(rosemary)和百里香(thyme，其發音同「time」)，分別代表愛情的「甜蜜」、「力量」、「忠誠」與「勇氣」。歌詞中也出現了另一種香藥草：石楠花(heather)，則是象徵著「孤獨」。
 
此曲因賽門與葛芬柯(Simon and Garfunkel)為電影《畢業生》改編為主題曲而走紅全球(當年曾超過了披頭四，登上了1968年暢銷歌曲排行榜的榜首)，至今已經有無數的翻唱版本。
 
順便說，歌詞中使用了較少見的文法：「remember me to sb.」，意思是「代我問候某人」。
